Planned Project Outcomes
To Further Develop Best Practices in Reducing Recidivism and to Enhance Seamless Men & Women Entry Back to the Community
_____________________________________________________
We work toward restoring wholeness and healing by providing a continuum of care for those in recovery. We provide comprehensive case management services and establish a framework of action for the achievement of specified recovery goals.
Our vision is to providing recovery services beyond treatment. We understand the importance of meeting the basic needs of individuals seeking a clean and sober way of living. Seattle's Recovery Support Center and the John Backstrom House operates from a holistic approach focusing on the client's mind, body, and spirit.
Seattle's Recovery Support Center" John Backstrom House" is a demonstrative project working with other agencies to reduce recidivism, while simultaneously reintegrating men into their various communities. The bedrock of this undertaking is housing, which prevents the men and women from becoming homeless or being forced into criminal activity/ sexual abuse in order to survive. Upon release, Seattle's Recovery Support Center " John Backstrom House" provides a seamless transition to the community which is critical in the prevention of recidivism.
However, the focus cannot solely be on the reduction of recidivism, but must focus equally on holistic stabilization through wrap-around supportive social services. These support services have been assembled in the most cost-effective manner possible, through networking partnerships with existing agencies that currently provide these various services.
The planned project outcomes for men and women entering Seattle's Recovery Support Center follow below:
Transitional Housing:
Short-term transitional housing ( 2 years). This outcome could be achieved in the most cost-effective way through programs that transfer men housing and maintenance to Seattle's Recovery Support Center, " John Backstrom House" at approximately 50% of the cost. Additionally, the program would create a stronger commitment from the clients, to strive toward their goals and achievements.
Personalized Service Plan:
Interface with individually planned wrap-around supportive services, tailored for each man's and woman's specific needs.
Self-Actualization:
Self-Actualization occurs through planned expectations and positive re-enforcement. Because of past social, educational, and financial deprivation, most men and women have not experienced or achieved personal success. Therefore, the process of socialization must begin with incremental expectations of success. Through gradually achieved success, the men and women will begin to self-actualize toward an expectation of success.
Self-Maintenance:
Movement toward self-maintenance occurs because of the program's requirement that each man and woman must either be employed, involved in a job search program, enrolled in a job training or skill-training program, or pursuing educational enrichment in an academic setting.
Self- Governance:
Self-Governance because of planned expectations. In order to successfully transition, men and women must master self management. This is achieved through an awareness approach, which is Pavlovian in scope.
Societal and Moral Awareness:
Societal and moral awareness resulting from understanding self in relationship to society, societal expectations, and moral responsibility to self and community. This expectation is achieved through self management activity. The men and women are taught how to use all existing social support service resources to provide for themselves. Men and Women must perform chores for home maintenance daily. This provides a micro-view of society and is expanded upon to give a macro-view of society.
Many men and women have not been adequately socialized and nurtured; therefore, moral and ethical responsibility has not been developed at a level of expectation. Understanding this self foundation is achieved through managing group intervention on individual persona that impact the entire group. As in society, group consensus governs the matter and the men must accept responsibility and growth or face the groups recommendations, which could include additional chores or asked to leave the program.
Seattle's Recovery Support Center and John Backstrom House believes this area of personal growth is a most primary component in their successful entry back into the community.
Self-Confidence:
For various sociological, educational, and financial reasons, many men and women have never developed strong confidence in their ability to self-actualize a healthy way of living. Therefore, using planned incremental steps that foster gradual achievement; and gradually move toward independence.
Re-Connection with Family, when appropriate:
Through the sponsorship of men and women housed at Seattle's Recovery Support Center " John Backstrom House," family gatherings or special events periodically occur to re-connect men and women with their families.
Community or Church Involvement:
Men and women are suggested to work with church groups or community organizations to give support to their community.
Advancement to Permanent Housing:
When men and women have acquired employment and have participated in the program, they are given support in identifying permanent housing.
Transition into a Productive, Tax-Paying Citizen:
Transition to the role of a productive, self-managing citizen is the ultimate goal for ever Seattle's Recovery Support Center " John Backstrom House," participant. The program allows an opportunity to maximize their chances to avoid returning to unhealthy life choices and decisions.
The outcomes noted herein highlight the Seattle's Recovery Support Center and John Backstrom House program format. Since Seattle's Recovery Support Center was created as an innovative and holistic approach with the goal of a seamless method of entry into the community, it was structured to assess the outcomes in a clinical manner.
